If you select one or more items, the currently active item will turn orange. If you mouse over one of the edges, a small white stripe will appear. You can drag it to set the size of the area you want. You can see the current size in the middle of the size window below the design area, and the dimensions of the entire composition at the bottom of the design area and on the left.
